After years of dumping liquids down the drain, bacteria can start to grow and create an odor that can stink up the whole kitchen. If you have odor coming from other drains, it can come from soap buildup, toothpaste and other things that you pour down the drain. If you smell an odor, there are some simple ways to get rid of the odors and freshen the sink drain.

Remove Odors From Sink Drains

Things Needed

White vinegar

Baking soda

Salt

Bleach

Lime or orange peels

Step 1

Mix 1/4 cup salt with 1/2 cup baking soda. Heat up 1 cup white vinegar. Pour the salt and baking soda down the drain followed by the hot vinegar. Leave the solution sit for 15 minutes while the foaming action of the solution eats away at the buildup in the drain. Rinse with hot water from the tap for about 30 seconds. The drain will now smell fresh and clean.

Step 2

Mix 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup bleach. Pour down the drain and leave it to sit for one hour. Rinse with cold tap water for one minute. After a while, the bleach smell will dissipate along with the odor in the sink drain.

Step 3

Use lime peels or orange peels in the garbage disposal. Turn on the garbage disposal and the cold water. Drop in one or two lime or orange peels and let the garbage disposal chop everything up. Turn off the disposal and you will smell a citrus smell coming from the drain.

Step 4

Use a rag soaked with vinegar to wipe down the outer partsof the drain and the sink. Sometimes, the smell is on the surface of the drainitself or the sink. Wiping the drain and sink down with vinegar will eliminatethe smell exterior drain smell.
